Love, so bitterly lost...
Just One Thing...

I lifted my head and gave a little smile
that was accompanied by a tear.
“O yes, I did belong to someone once,
I wasn’t always here.
I was my lover’s angel, his favourite and only toy.
And I was so bright when he played with me
yes, that special little boy...
He thought that I was perfect,
every feather on my wing
Almost perfect... but for just one thing.
I tried to be that thing he wanted,
I told him to see if I could adapt
But when he tried to make me be it
my little wing just snapped.
‘It’s all right,’ I said,
‘I guess I can’t do it all’
‘Maybe for this purpose,
you should find another doll...’
And waiting in the shadows,
amid the rafters of our nest
Flew down another angel
a dark and eerie guest.
‘I can do that thing you want’
she said to my lover
So he took her from the shelf
and left this broken other.
I heard them whispering late at night
over what excitement she could bring
He marvelled at his new toy
that could do just one thing...
And this is where I fell
in a jealous rage
and broke my entire being
and came to live in this place.
Now sometimes in the night
I think of my lover’s lair
and how for the lack of just one thing,
I fell from it into this despair...”
