AUTUMN WALTZ

The soft strains of music floating through the air
as the breeze carries the harmony to hearts everywhere,
A moment to remember as he leads me to the dance,
we waltz amid the falling leaves in autumn's first romance.

Nature can paint a lovely picture to hold in memory,
the horizon filled with evening stars as far as we can see.
He holds me close and whispers that his love for me is true,
promising we will meet again and then bids me adieu.

Winter comes too quickly and the weather has turned cold,
now his letters have stopped coming, I am getting old.
The last one that I sent to him was returned "address unknown"
I had signed it "love forever" but it didn't reach his home.

As years go by there will always be a love you can't forget,
a summer love, an autumn love, and spring is a good bet,
but winter is a time for letting go, and letting go I have to do;
the waltz is nothing but a memory, the song is through.
