after listening to Ornette Coleman's Lonely Woman also about somebody I knew
Lonely Woman

she was a lonely woman
she moved slowly
she looked over the trees

over the roof

she was tall and tender
she was in a far away land
she missed the winds of yesterday

she smiled but often refrained from talking
she had a lot of time
she was prepared to wait

she accepted a glass of wine
only because it was offered
without excessive flourish

so serious
so withdrawn she seemed

It made her beauty so much more desirable

she believed in patient silence
she refused to tell him too much

she preferred long evenings
she often let her head rest on his shoulder

it was an old story she said

she wanted to close her eyes
once more once more
before leaving forever
