Can you fall in love with an angel?
“Take me home Mamoru…”

Mamoru looked sadly at the young girl kneeling befote him. She was crying. Her

blonde hair and her majestic white wings were disarrayed and covered with dirt and

blood. The deep red gash on her arm was bleeding freely, making the girl weaker

every moment. Mamoru kneeled beside her and took the hand opposite the

wounded one, gently stroking it. “No,” he whispered into her ear as he picked her

up and carried her to the inside of the house.

Mamoru gently placed her on his futon and he began loosening her

kimono. The girl whimpered slightly as Mamoru carefully picked out the shreds of

clothes that had fallen on the wound. Then, he ripped the girl’s kimono at the botton

and tightly strapped the wounded arm with a strip of white silk. The blood instantly

diminished, but it still flowed. He ripped more strips from the kimono and walked

out of the house towards a small well. A dark shape crouching above the well made

Mamoru stop.

“She’s not living over night you know that?” he had a rough voice, and he

watched Mamoru intently as he retrieved water from the well. Mamoru only nodded

and walked sadly back into the house.

It was past midnight when the blonde girl had died. Mamoru wrapped the

girl’s body in the silk sheets that she had been sleeping on the past night and

carried her outside. Her wings were wrapped around her body, but they were no

longer white. Her feathers were slowly beginning to darken as the hours carried on.

“I am taking you home,” Mamoru said to her. After several minutes of

walking in between the trees of the dense forest outside Mamoru’s home, he finally

arrived at a small clearing. There, he finally left the girl’s limp body on the ground.

With tears in his eyes he looked towards the sky. “This is what You have caused!”

he screamed, “You forsakened her! Thanks to that she is now dead!”

The wind seemed to increase in response. Was He threatening

Mamoru? No, it seemed much more gentle than that. Mamoru dropped to his knees

and cried. The woman he loved was dead. His angel had been killed! But behind

him, the nearly black wings of the girl were turning white once more. The wound on

her arm closed itself slowly, and the color returned to her face. Silently, she stood

up and walked towards Mamoru. She embraced him.

“My home is here with you Mamoru. I think He finally understood that.”

Mamoru turned around and even with his eyes clouded by his tears he found her

lips and gently kissed them. She was home, he said to himself, home with him.
