THE RECEPTION OF TIME

Agents of the General two stepped forth upon my land
But one stepped through a fifty to deliver it by hand
A bag within a bag it was presented in a jiffy
The journey ended which began in Phar Lap's famous city

The package torn and torn again the treasure to reveal
The shock proof, ever brilliant piece of gold with back of steel
The recipient did stare upon this thing that tells and ticks
And turns to ask his mother fair "Does a greater thing exist?"

Great indeed the love that is 'tween daughter and her father
Just as strong the bond between a son and his dear mother
But the saga of this time warp has but shown me naught but other
Than the robust creature forged in blood; a man's love for his brother

A chapter closed and epic begun, who knows where it will end
Perhaps confined to poetry of cryptic, obscure blend
Or golf, the younger more adept by the elder's own admission
Or time may bring a race of two from warrant to commission
