A tribute to my daughter fighting in Iraq.
“THAT’S MY LITTLE GIRL”

She starts her day by putting on her boots and uniform.
To help a people in a land that’s shattered, tossed and torn.

She gave up all the things, that we do everyday.
To help those who can’t help themselves, find a better way.

She does her job with a smile and rarely does complain.
But on the phone, in her voice, I can hear the pain.

I can’t imagine how it must feel to be so far away.
From all your friends and family on such as Christmas day.

In a place so strewn with blood you need to wear a glove.
So far from all the things that you’ve come to know and love.

She grits her teeth to find a way to deal with all the stress.
And prays she might find some peace, when she lays down to rest.

I know that she will stand her ground and do what she must do.
To prove that  she’s got what it takes, to bleed red, white and blue.

And though I miss her terribly and she’s half way ‘round the world.
I can smile with pride and say “That’s my little girl”.
