perpetuating the cycle
little boy tryin to make his way
momma leave and he beg her to stay
a little money and a room to sleep
but she got a lotta worry tryin to earn her keep
day after day she shakin that ass
do all she can just to ease the pain
every shift, sniffin on glass
all the while she keep on sayin

come on we gotta celebrate
life's too short to cry everyday
go ahead lift ya head up high
one a these days you gonna reach the sky

that boy a little older now
life's hard and he's learnin how
cuttin up, hope that she hit him
too bad it's the attention she givin
eye caught by a dime of a honey
game thick and he start pressin
lil mama don't think its funny
slick boy just keep on stressin

come on we gotta celebrate
life's too short to cry everyday
go ahead lift ya head up high
one a these days you gonna reach the sky

baby boy got beef in the street
start shit with every man he meet
two years past seen hella strife
black top catch the end of his life
bitter silence at the funeral service
a woman question what she reachin toward
realize no high could be worth this
hang her head as she cry to the lord

come on we gotta celebrate
life's too short to cry everyday
go ahead lift ya head up high
one a these days you gonna reach the sky

three years this women been sober
each day her heart turn colder
with remorse, her soul is heavy
love knocks, but she ain't ready
met a man who preachin redemption
skeptical, she opens her ears
poetic flow masks his intention
too easily quiets her fears

come on we gotta celebrate
life's too short to cry everyday
go ahead lift ya head up high
one a these days you gonna reach the sky

that man, he out runnin around
while she work three jobs tryin to hold him down
all the time claimin he an artist
but for real the junk's where his heart is
hurtful man don't push her away
guilt tell her its what she earned
stay knowin he'll kill her one day
all this time and she still ain't learned

come on we gotta celebrate
life's too short to cry everyday
go ahead lift ya head up high
one a these days you gonna reach the sky
