A love lost after many years.
I met you in your teenage years,
Laughing and giggling with your peers.
Your pretty smile lit up my soul.
My heart fluttered out of control.

Riding in my old pickup truck
I pondered this was more than luck.
Married awhile and kids galore.
We're always broke, but never poor.

We're older now, in latter years.
We've felt the pain, have seen the tears.
As you lie upon that sick-bed,
Can I comfort your weary head?

The doctors say there is no hope.
Sixty years now, how can I cope?
Walking is hard, my pain is long.
My love for you is ever strong.

You're beautiful in every way,
I'll hold your hand until that day.
It's hurting now, a bitter pill.
Your hand trembles, I feel the chill.

Sleep evades me, I'm up all night.
I place flowers at dawn's first light.
I miss you dear, I say goodbye.
My hope; to see you in the sky.

I travel to where we first met.
The tears abound, my shirt is wet.
On weakened knees, please hear my cries.
I hobble now, it's hard to rise.
