Watching spring emerge in my backyard on Ash Wednesday.
my sleepy garden waking
new shades emerging
cheerful green in pale
they’ve been gone too long

we’ve seen each other now
acknowledged one another
they know I’ll keep them safe
i’m happy to see them

the day of imposition
thinking about the past year
my sins and indiscretion
they know nothing

renewal comes from last years palms
auld lang syne echos
new promise is coming
in pale shades of green
