A poem about a heroic dog.
Old Taffy o’ the Mill

‘Is name was Old Taffy,
Old Taffy o’ the Mill,
An’ we all lost a friend
When Old Taffy got killed.

We was waitin’ to go,
On patrol up The Falls;
When our very best friend,
Gave ‘imself for us all.

It was ‘urled from outside,
To catch us off guard.
Only our very best friend,
Was left there in that yard.

The bomb was ‘omemade,
Packed with nails n’ bolts.
Old Taffy our friend,
Sniffed, gave ‘is ‘andler the nod.

An’ then it went rotten,
Lots o’ screaming and smoke;
Gone was our friend’
An’ our ‘earts they was broke.

‘E was loved by us all,
Especially the Toms.
‘E was man’s best friend,
When ‘e lay on that bomb.

‘Is name was Old Taffy,
Old Taffy o’ the Mill.
And the world lost an 'ero,
When Old Taffy got killed.
