A lonely wanderer in the ruins of a cathedral...or is it?
PART ONE- ENTRY

the match flickers alight
i take a step forward
and light up the light in my hand
another step forward
my steps echo in the room
i can hear my blood
rushing through my ears
one more move
three marble carvings
stand tall above my head
the angel of misery
the angel of sorrow
the angel of death
right in front of me...
their arms outstretched
they all look down upon me
beckoning me forward
closer to them
closer to their world...

PART TWO- FEAR

the black coffin lies
clasped in the pale hand
of the angel of death
a spider crawls out
slowly
keeping guard of the contents
kept a secret
inside
until the right time
i reach my arm
towards the purple scarf
that lay draped on the coffin
embroided with gold crosses
my light flickers
casting eerie shadows
on the walls
surrounding me
a bit closer
my hands start to shake
my fingers
brush the edge of the coffin
a chill goes through me
something
or someone
moves behind me
i jerk my hand away
fear
suddenly
i am afraid
it moves again
i spin around
but can see nothing
other than the huge doors
of the lost cathedral
my heart palpitates
i'm ready to run
but my feet don't obey
beads of sweat
sting my eyes
it moves once more
behind me again
i turn slowly
a glow
shines from the coffin
i walk closer
closer...
closer...

PART THREE- SILENCE

a few feet
from the coffin
i stand
afraid
unexpecting
i peer closer
to the marble coffin
it's top shing brightly
in the dim light
of my lamp
suddenly
another chill blows past
making my light flicker
and go out
i fumble in the darkness
for another matchstick
and gets the light going again
but something's different
silence
deadly silence
slicing through the putrid air
it becomes more noticed
now
and my eye catches something else
beyond the coffin
and the angels
and the silence between us
eyes
lay waiting
ready to attack
just waiting patienly
for me to become weak
to take control
another wave of fear
washes over me
and everything now
tells me
RUN
but i still can't
the eyes slowly approach
my stricken
body
as i stand staring
hardly aware
a raging fire
seems to grow
between us
but the eyes just shine on
defying everything
hypnotising
deadly

PART FOUR- ATTACK

hands suddenly dash out
from the flames
that i realise
are only within me
they pull me in
as a body emerges
it's face
shriveled
gray
worn
laps of skin interfold
black teeth stickin out
blood in between
i hear a scream
and only realise that
it's my own
as the demon engulfs me
whole
i become nothing more
than a pile of ashes on the floor
sacred sacrament
still crying out for mercy
in the still
darkness
of the cathedral...
