Memories of the past, retained by one of the lovers
BLUE SKY AND DARK SHADOWS: a sonnet

Remember when the sky was vast and blue,
Resplendent with many a floating cloud?
Life every day had a different hue;
“Enjoy”, life had a message clear and loud.

Remember when a million lamps did dance
In sunshine in the waters of the lake?
Lengthening shadows in moonlight did prance,
As by its side we lay often awake.

Those days and nights, though now in distant past
Are still fresh in my heart and in my mind.
But what a pity that you, in contrast,
Have forgotten them, what an act unkind!

Now verily I do live in the past.
Dark shadows on my future are now cast.
