I wrote this in a history class and like it, but I want to know what other people think.
I have never known pain like this,
And no one ever should.
The waves keep coming to my eyes,
Then cowering back in hurt.
I never thought it’d come to this,
I thought it would be quick.
A shot straight through the head or heart,
Then blackness smothering all.

And now as silent as a mouse,
The hooded man, he comes.
Bear me away on a wave,
Pain evaporating.
To light so bright I cannot see,
Shining every way.
I will wait forever for peace,
For guilt to fly away.

I have stood here too long to know,
Just staring at the stone.
I wish I had been more stubborn,
With less understanding.
I wish I had done everything,
To help my country more.
But now one stone grave stands empty,
Lonely amongst the loved.
