Copyrights protect a work from
copies and distribution.
Like a clone which bears striking resemblance
without much contribution.
A derivative work in particular can be one
of ever concern
For to “know” if it’s original may take some
effort to discern.

A translation into another language or
a movie based on a play
May appear an original work to some
but similar components does it convey.
Another example of a derivative work,
a popular tune re-played
Or a copy in another form or medium
perhaps prominently displayed.

I’m neither expert nor attorney
in derivative works of art
My layman’s understanding
is the message I impart.
I do believe that my poetry as such,
ever does conform
To the basic elements above-defined
as I am such informed.

Unlike a copy, my message is unique
because my poems are from and of my heart
And not words immortalized by others
in mere another form of art.
And so I ask that you contact me
if you feel I have infringed
Open dialogue prevents litigation,
which I pray it will not hinge.

And if by chance I did in fact
infringe on your copyrights
Know that it's accidental, unintended
I will work to make things right.
