Just a play on a very old idea.
Mockingbird (With Broken Wings)

Hush little baby
Don’t say a word
Bloodcurdling screams
That’ve never been heard
So small and innocent
Unable to fight back
Now makes up for the strength
That she did once lack
Torn to pieces
Ripped to shreds
Visits with maternal figures
Something she always dreads
For ‘motherly’ decisions
There is no excuse
The extent of the punishment
Should not reduce
For what she did to you
She should not live a day
She wouldn’t have another breath
If I had it my way
For what she did do you
I’ll hold you close however long
It takes you to heal
And make me just as strong
So shiver in my arms, my love
I’ll not deny you my heart
I’ll do my best to use
The greatest of my healing art
So hush now, my darling
Don’t make a sound
Just let me hold you
Let the warmth surround…

“Hush little baby
Don’t say a word
Mama finally got
What she deserved
And if you ever feel
Regret
Remember what she did
And you’ll forget
I’ll hold you close
As we both shake
I won’t let you fall
I won’t let you break
I’ll always be here
For you, my love
Through thick and thin
And when push comes to shove…”
