A prompt poem written for the Kansaspoet Poetry contest.
Love scars

Love is a secret passion
Often desired, yet rarely felt.
My only thought was to find it
To fulfill my need to feel whole.

When I met you, I fell so hard.
You wanted love to complete you, as I did too.

We scraped , we clawed at one another
our words revealing our deepest fears.
So desperate for love yet, too afraid to be sincere.

True love heals;
it is a fountain of life.

I was scarred as I fought to love you
Now, I am filled with disdain.

Intertwined in each others pain
The years bear testament to our frenzied courtship

To the love we once had,
Love scars the one it owns.
