A woman tries to uncover a family secret, the photo of a sister she never knew.
For precious minutes, time stops,
through the hazy camera lens.
I see her on a swing,
the ropes entwined with yellow daisies.

I can only see her back,
a straw hat, pink roses and silk ribbons.
Golden ringlets of hair cascading
down her back over a party dress.

The dress is apricot silk,
ivory lace flowers for trim.
A large silk bow tied in back,
a picture of perfect innocence.

I envision a secret smile on her face,
soft emerald eyes, beginnings of lush sexy lashes,
rosy dimpled cheeks, dainty hands holding the ropes.
Her hair, dress and hat perfect down to her tiny bare feet.

Poised on the swing, her dress catches wind.
Ready to take off and fly; a free bird.
The hat sails away, she giggles.
Our mother reminds, "behave like a lady" one more time.

Why only one photo? I question Mom.
She turns away in silent tears.
I am intrigued, on a quest, I question all.
My Papa snaps "enough".

I sense fear.
