Written in extreme despair
Broken hearts go to a place
of perpetual memory.

You want to forget, but you can’t;
the heart remembers
every smile, touch, kind
word, thoughtful gesture.

You want to move on but
your heart says no—
remember the good times of yesterday.
Tomorrow is too uncertain
and today is much too painful.

You want to heal, yet
The pieces of your heart refuse
to join together to create something new.

Broken hearts go to a place
from which it’s hard to escape; it’s so
tempting to stay in that warm, friendly
space, where dreams came true–
even for a brief moment.

My heart is broken.
There, I’ve said it–
now what do I do?

How do I get away from the place
where broken hearts go?
