Chance encounter slipping away is it too late to take a chance
It started
from across the room.
Strangers gathered,
an event.
Eyes met and held,
there a smile.
Heart beating,
faster,
still it went.

What is this,
their minds did think?
Causing feelings deep inside.
Words not spoken,
strangers still,
looking across the great divide.

People move like scattered leaves,
still they stood,
as in a trance.
Trying to catch this moment's time.
Not too late
to take a chance.

Who to start the journey cross?
Each waiting with heartfelt dread.
To take the steps to be the one,
fearful of the things
might be said.

Suddenly,
the night grows short,
as time has gathered speed.
Do they speak to their silence,
or let the moment
just proceed?

Passing time with distance gain.
A fleeting instant,
moment lost.
Gone to unknown whereabouts.
Who to know
but what the cost.

It was there to be had,
or not.
Just never to "might have been".
Passing through life's journey,
never to say when,
again.......
