This is a sonnet that I am hoping to soon enter in the Shakespeare (?) sonnet contest
A Beautiful Heart

Your face, like sunlight, simply slips into my eyes,
your expression is more tender than even the stars' tender gaze,
and I, forgetting all things I know to be wise,
can only adore you in a lover's hopeful ways.
and yet, I know your soul is not mine to take,
for like the bluebird, it is freedom that gives your heart song,
the decision for you to love me is not mine to make,
and with your image in my eyes, I can only wait here and long...
is it because your spirit soars free?
or is because of your beautiful heart?
your soul--oh, to just have the key!
and then in hurried excuses we'd never part.
you are my rose! you sparkle in the night and shine in the day,
but if I pick you, my flower, will you simply wither away?
