This is a poem I wrote for my sister when she moved to Alberta. She was my best friend.
If I said "I miss you",
Would you start to cry?
Do you want to know what it feels like to die?
Every second you're gone, that's what I go through,
But please don't forget, I feel happy for you.

If I said "I miss you",
Would you say it back?
Would you worry if I told you it was feeling I lacked?
Every time that we talk, it hurts just the same.
Every time I don't miss you, I am filled with shame.

If I said "I miss you",
Would you understand?
Would you tell me how much you missed comparing our hands?
Every phone call I make takes a piece of me away.
Every hour that goes by makes me think of that day.

If I said "I miss you",
In this final line,
I would be shocked if you told me you thought I was lying.
I miss you so much it hurts even to breathe,
But then I remember: eventually I knew you would leave.
