Poem about broken trust
AN EARLY FROST

Our differences have been many in the past
Unfortunately this one set to last

It is best now that we do part
So I can mend a saddened heart

The distance between us is not measured in miles
Far too many tears and not enough smiles

Despite my efforts to remain your friend
You seemed determined – me away to send

My love died at your indiscretions
How painful now I learn my lessons

Your attention so easily distracted
And you express wonder at how I reacted

I left not in anger but in disgrace
To hide the tears upon my face

Humiliated by your drunken behaviour
To few happy memories left for me to savour

Your disregard for my affection and thoughts
Has left me lonely and distraught

All I ask is someone faithful and honest
Unable to trust you – a life of empty promise

Total exclusion around my heart
In my life you’ll play no part

Your letters full of sorry and remorse
Are not opened – reading them of no use

Sitting here I look upon open field
From my decision I will not yield

Nothing left – even friendship is lost
Even the roses die with an early frost
