Unfinished Edgar Allen Poe attempt
Dreary Nights

         It was a dark and dreary night some twenty years ago.
When something started brewing around the house to and fro.
It started off quite quiet and continuously began to grow.
When something started brewing some twenty years ago.

         It started with a rapping at my fronted door,
But it ‘twas not the raven chanting his nevermore.
I headed over to see what I had in store;
When suddenly it started pounding at my fronted door.

         Thoughts rolled through my mind of all the gruesome dead,
Of bloody ghouls and spirits approaching with their severed heads.
For was it a ghoul I do not know for I ran up the stairs instead;
So I truly do not know whether it was alive or if it was dead?

         There I was upstairs in my room under the bed in fright,
Because of all the sounds and things that go bump in the night;
When then all of a sudden from my window shone a mysterious light,
Which started up my fears once again that caused all my fright.
