A depression settled.
She lays ignored and disgraced.
From her wrists she bleeds.
Alone, lost, and feeling displaced
On all of her thoughts and deeds.

From ridicule and rejection she died then.
When her husband came home
She claimed it as inevitable when
He said she was not his own.

When she broke free she saw the world,
Dark and undaring.
So finally she thought of painless death
As a more welcome bearing.

She stole into the cubboard at night,
Looking for the pills.
That even as dainty objects
Gave her mind poisonous thrills.

To the world she said good-bye
Pretending all was well.
As she died, she saw no light
But heard her name in hell.
