A poem I wrote after watching my son and his "hunt" for lightning bugs!
Shane and the Lightning Bug

With outstretched arms
    the chase begins
          run circles round the yard.
Armed with a plastic bowl and lid
This hunt won't take him far.

As darkness settles on the day
    they blink
          he runs
              reaches up
                    the prey, she slips away.

Another blink
    illumined green
time now to change the course.
A swoop
    a leap
          treasure in hand
              a magical light source.

He takes a peek into his palm
    she twinkles her hello
          two friends now meet
My Shane, his bug
          the firefly aglow.

This friendship need not last too long
    sweetly he said good-bye
          lifted the lid
              then flew away
                    now free... Miss Firefly.
