Imortality does exist.
The Promise of a Child
Hath not we mortals fear and woe,
our lives both compelled and conflicted.
As if, unknowingly ever marching forward toward oblivion,
Indifferent over such matters seemingly beyond our control.
Our lives confronted with daunting terminality.
We fear not death, but with such fright.
Through what then, do we find solace?
Wherein then lies our immortality, life’s true measure of height?
In the promise of a child.
Through procreation, the lives of those we create.
A gift given to both strong, meek and mild.
Therein lies our immortality, in the promise of a child.
Held steadfast within, all hopes and dreams and grandeur,
All unfulfilled rhapsody’s, this harvest of intensity.
Renewed in vigor and allure,
All held within, the promise of a child.
Another chance to argue life’s great debate.
As yet untouched by evening sunsets of hate.
Somehow cleansed of our truest bigotries and trappings.
Cleansed with a purity of faith, eye’s wide open, ever seeking, darting.
An innocence awaiting its fate.
Born anew, in our wake, is the child,
Renewed in purpose and in chance,
The promise of a child was made from love,
Not created from sword or lance.
The morning’s angel dust still in their eyes,
As they open to greet the new day.
The recognition we see in them,
thus evokes pride from within.
Seeking the nourishment of our love is the child,
With each twinkle of an eye, each smile, and impish grin.
A legacy of all that have come before,
Who dared to walk this Earth,
To live, love and die,
Leaving their hearts and souls behind.
In the promise of a child.
This is the promise of a child.
Strong of heart and tempered will,
with all the future still ahead, the promise lies yet fulfilled.
Calmed by trust a child knows no fear,
their nose’s pressed up against the world’s windowsill.
When finally taken to our eternal rest,
all captured, the laughter and swept away tears,
Last looks and thoughts, at what has been reared.
Stands the child, the sum total of our best.
Upon such time as this child grows in years.
To full promise and maturity.
And the promise passes from one to the next,
And our life’s force clings no longer dear.
In reverence and respect, we shall look both forward and back
in wonderment and amazement at life‘s second chance,
in The promise of a child.
