Thoughts of a Christmas Past

A CHRISTMAS PAST. A sad and lonely sight she makes Rocking in her chair. But who knows what is really in Her heart? What thoughts lie there? She's thinking of a Christmas past So many years ago. She's trimming trees and wrapping gifts And hanging Mistletoe. The squeals of little children ring All through the house they run, Anxious for the morn to come So they can start the fun. She recalls the many hours spent In a kitchen baking pies, Turkey, ham, a Christmas cake, She sees a child's wide eyes. Wrapping paper strewn about, A table that needs clearing. Children happily exhausted, Bedtime now is nearing. A figure in the big old chair Is dozing, quite content To let her bring some order to The havoc that's been rent. Tired, yet fulfilled, she'll go To bed this night and pray To thank the Lord for giving them A perfect Christmas Day. No more will these old gnarled hands Hang Mistletoe, wash dishes. No longer the ability To meet her loved ones' wishes. A sad and lonely sight she makes Rocking in her chair. But memories of a Christmas past Bring joy beyond compare. For Annie, She shared so many of her memories with those who took the time to listen. I am so grateful that I was one who stopped and listened. ** Image ID #1501613 Unavailable ** |
