THE WORST CHRISTMAS PRESENT.

We had bought a new house and were settling in,
Then Christmas sneaked up 'fore we knew it.
What to buy each other? We were in a spin,
And only one week left to do it!

The man of the house did his shopping first,
I was hoping for diamonds or cologne.
"Don't go near the tool shed", he warned with a grin.
So that's just what I did when alone.

The shock and the horror that faced me in there!
Tied up with pink ribbon, and a note -
"I thought you might like this, oh love of my life",
On the card with the lawn mower, he wrote!

As quick as a flash, I went to the store,
I'd show I could be just as mean.
I inspected the goods that were on display,
And bought the loveliest sewing machine!

This story's not fiction, it's a fact - I declare,
It did happen just like this. It's true!
Every year after, I got perfume and such,
He got books on dress styles that were new!
