In memory of a dear friend who adopted me

A Valentine for Betty

The daffodils bloomed on Valentine's Day
As if they had a statement to make.
Did I ever tell you that I love the way
You stand in your garden holding your rake,
With soil under your fingernails
And dirt on both your knees,
Just enjoying the fragrant smells
In your private place of peace.
The lady bugs and humming birds
Have got a safe place to feed.
If they could just express the words
They'd say, this is all we need.
A rain cloud in the sky above
Moves in to block the sun.
Shared blessings are acts of love.
For now your work is done.
Smiling, you gather your garden tools
As drops of rain land on your head.
Like them you're one of Nature's jewels
God Bless your flower bed!
