While on a drive back from a funeral these lines came to mind....
Glass and steel coffins
stand on end holding the pseudo living
confined in day to day death.
These join in ceremony to
celebrate and mourn the passing
from steel to ash.
Ceremonial changes wrought over leaves
change Latin to stained glass shattering vocals
drowning out the sobs of change.
Steel conveyances travel the saddened home
down concrete paths cut through field and forest
where yet a red tailed hawk surveys aloof.
A deer raises antlered mind in the distance--
steel melts away, air refreshes
and I long to traipse the forgiving trail.
