Creativity begging for your attention while working a 9-5. Which is the real distraction?
Distraction

While at work one day
Straining to stay on course
Blocking distractions from interrupting
Delicate and tenuous focus

Like a toddler restrained on a lap,
You fought to be set free
To pounce from mind to page
Wagging and begging like a pup

Without a voice of your own
You tug my hands impatiently
Luring fingers to the keys,
Refusing to accept the most valid excuse

It did no good to explain,
You are a distraction to my day
Papers and due dates scream for attention
But you are one insistent little creature

Reluctantly, I surrender-you win
Moving papers and files
I give you room to run and play
Which you do so blissfully

And time flew unnoticed
As my inner child
Poured out of my soul.
I was left to wonder at the end of my day

Which part was really the distraction.
