The Old Woman


Talking.  Listening.  Never comprehending.  Her eyes are wide as she nods to what I've just said.  Already I can see her mind working, trying to understand, all the while twisting and warping until it fits with her predetermined outlook.  She smiles, her eyes looking at me, but somehow through me, and nods acceptance.
