A contest submission to the 99 word contest.
The ground erupted, as if the tectonic plates of the earth shifted suddenly. “No…” The girl murmured, gripping fistfuls of golden hair as she watched nature rise against her. “Run away! --What are you doing?!”

The boy she screamed at stood frozen.

“Jason!”

The great volcano ripped from the earth, debris raining down upon them, scattering blankets of ash and fear. Still, Jason wouldn’t move. The girl’s body began to run even as she willed her limbs to remain. Jason turned and smiled eerily, being swallowed by the acrid lava.

Dracinda woke from a nightmare, panting and breathless.
