Version 1

Meat and Potatoes

Meat and potatoes is like a marriage
sent from heaven to the carriage
of my tummy.

Butter is the veil potatoes wear
unless there’s sour cream to spare
Oh, how yummy!

Salt is music to the tongue
as bread sits on a throne among
the corn and peas.

My fork and knife, beside my plate
like well-trained soldiers, they do wait
the bid to seize.

Dessert lays patient like the calm before
the storm as hungry taste buds roar
close by their prey.

A glass of milk stands like a tower
tall and regal, full of power
short, its stay.

I place a napkin on my lap,
my drooling mouth is like the sap
in early spring.

I savor each and every bite
like a marriage of sheer delight
that only food can bring.

*Note* SWPoet, I think I like Version 3 the best here. I'm not sure if I did this exactly right, but I had fun with it!
