he sat on a rock cradleing his head in his hands
The beach was empty. But he yelled for help, for any one, for anything. After several minutes he realized on one could hear him. For a moment he was scared. Then he was angry. He yelled at the ocean, and then he yelled to god. He was consumed by rage. He didn't know how or why he was here he was furious and angry and he didn't under stand why he couldn't have just died. He yelled for his own stupidity and frailness. He took rocks and threw them into the water, finding some sick and simple joy in watching the water shatter. Sam was circling him, reluctant to leave yet afraid to go closer. He turned his face towards the sky and yelled at god again, asking him why he couldn't have died. Why he had to go and do this. After his latest temper tantrum he proceeded to scan the beach again. He saw a figure further down the beach

Jarrett ran towards what appeared to be a man. Stumbling as he went, and calling to him. The man looks about thirty he has long brown and sun-browned skin he is wearing a pair of shorts, and he's barefoot. He is carrying a long sky blue and white surfboard under one arm. Your dog rushes out to greet him. This is odd because Sam is usually fearful of and even aggressive towards strangers. The stranger kneels towards Sam and affectionately scratches Sam behind the ears, and then he looked up at Jarrett with tired but strong grey eyes. Jarrett's mind flashed with distant recognition yet he couldn't place his face. The stranger smiled looking mildly surprised and yet knowing. Jarrett began to tell his story about the boat and how he got stranded here. He asked to use a phone. He knew the answer to this but at this point anything could happen. "No phone lines out here" he answered in a bemused way. Jarrett asked the stranger if he had any food or water. The stranger doesn't answer, instead he picks up his board and continues down the beach, he gestures for Jarrett to follow and for some nameless reason he did.

After a few minutes the stranger looked back at Jarrett. "So Jarrett," he asked "what brings you here?" Jarrett took a step back. "How do you know my name?" "Didn't you mention it?" the stranger shrugged. Jarrett didn't remember dropping his name but then again his head wasn't exactly on straight right now. Jarrett's throat was burning, and he felt dizzy and feverish. He asked the stranger for water. But at this point He thought the stranger was some pothead beach bum. Suddenly he stakes his board into the sand and walks towards one of the many palm trees. Jarrett sat on a rock and cradled his head in his hands
