Thoughts on Mother's Day

How does the Titlark know to build a nest?

First she finds a branch that forks the right way.
Then the moss is collected and placed on the fork..

Spider's web is rubbed into the moss, by sideways weaving,
and later vertically, by rotating her body.

A cup begins to take shape from breast pressing and trampling.
Lichen is flung about the outside of the cup using acrobatic
        manoeuvers. .

The dome of the nest is completed, leaving a neat entry hole,
feathers are plucked to furnish the interior......

There are thirteen different kinds of construction to this nest.
Where is the carrott and the stick? Why should a bird care
        about this nest building?

        Is this intelligence?
