Those things we say to each other that no one would ever understand
I believe every couple has its own language that makes their relationship so unique. Inside jokes and silly words that anyone who would listen to them would think they were crazy.

Sherri and I are no different.

Sometimes, just a simple declarative statement will lead to this kind of exchange between us:

Sherri: "I just left work and now I'm going over to PONY League to open up the concession stand."
Me: "Really?"
Sherri: "Then, I have to stop at Martin's and pick up some milk and bread before I head home."
Me: "Really?"
Sherri: "Uh, yeah."
Me: "Are you sure about that?"
Sherri: "Yeah."
Me: "Are you positive about that?"
Sherri: "Yeah."
Me: "Are you double positive about that?"
Sherri: "That's enough."
Me: "Are you triple positive about that?"
Sherri: "Will you stop it."

Or one of us will make a simple statement like in the long-winded previous example, which leads to the other one saying, "You don't say?" If I'm the one asking the question, Sherri's answer usually is "That's funny. I think I just did."

I also do the "You don't say" routine with my 12-year-old daughter. Her answer is always "I do say." Once in a while, I also will try this routine at the newspaper when I'm talking to a fellow newsroom employee. So far, no one there seems to know just what to say in response.

Then, there is the "pet name" category.

It seems like at least once a day, we get into a conversation where we sarcastically say the word "dear" at the end of a string of statement.

ME: "Do you need to do a load of laundry, DEAR?"
SHERRI: "Yes, DEAR."
ME: "Well, I have to get my stuff done, DEAR?
SHERRI: "OK, DEAR."
ME: "And then, we'll have sex, DEAR."
SHERRI: "No, DEAR"

I hope you enjoyed a small look into our own language of love. It's what makes me and my little cherub so special.

SHERRI: "I'm not a cherub. A cherub is a short fat person."
ME: "But you're only 5'1"
SHERRI: "AND A HALF!"
ME: "Are you my sweetums."
SHERRI: "No, I'm not a sweetums either."
ME: "So what are you then?"
SHERRI: "I'm a Sherri."
