Reconciling feelings after a birth (or adoption) following a past miscarriage.
MISSED

Missed the joy
Missed late nights
Holding her, feeding her
Missed being a mommy
Missed carrying her
Miscarriage

Then you came, my miracle, my joy
Found mother-work at last
Cherished late nights,
Holding you, feeding you
No longer missing the sadness
The desperation of empty arms

Missed feeling you inside me
Little kicks and turns
Found I'm missing her less
Knowing she lives in my heart
Found gratitude for both
That I didn't miss the chance

To be a mother

Below is the original version found in a journal I kept around August 05.  I found it this week (June 2) and thought I would put it here.  Above is the revised version.

MISSED

Missed the joy
Missed late nights
Holding her, feeding her
Missed being a mommy
Missed carrying her
Miscarriage

Then you came
My miracle, my joy
Cherished late nights,
Holding you, feeding you
No missed sadness
No missed desperation
No more empty arms

She is with me in my heart
Missed, not forgotten,
You are here in my arms
Found, always thankful

For making me a mother
