Essence of a drive.
enticing smells from secret sex,
escorted around by cool breezes,
evoking sensations of wanton desires.

snatching glimpses of neon darts,
streaking tracers in precarious ways,
searching missiles for undercover targets.

dancing stars portray mile markers,
dazzling Luna leads mysterious ways,
dusting reality with sterling illuminations.

choking yawns after 1 A.M. rendezvous,
compounding traffic still a few hours away,
careening people out this late are non-existent.

blaring horns from passing drivers,
belting obscenities through cracked windows,
beating fists at shattered tranquilities.

trespassing racers on littered streets,
trailing smoke behind spinning tires
thrumming, "Racers, on your mark!"

revving engines for psyching out,
replicating sounds that echo back
reverberating, "Set!"

gripping tight at steering wheels,
gushing sweat with anticipation
growing, "GO!"

hightailing hotrods floating on asphalt,
hearing sirens- they do not stop,
heading towards lost horizons.

needing sleep more now than ever,
nothing to keep me from it,
navigating turns to find my drive.

wandering home ending my night,
walking to my front door,
waiting inside, a race winner to the end.
