Structurally, it's a sonnet, though its subject is far from traditional.
The sun was hidden behind thick, gray smoke.
The blackened earth was bathed in an orange glow.
The city was burned by an unseen foe.
Our hidden evil, which finally woke,
Spawned from ashes and molten egg yolk.
We try to hide it, so it will not show,
But it is an evil that we all know.
Dwelling deep inside, waiting to provoke,
Waiting silently to start its firefight.
Yet, this raging fire can be contained,
In spite of our foolish, human conflicts.
If we aren’t cautious, this flame will ignite,
And all of the world will remain bloodstained,
As we all suffer the wrath of phoenix.
