A free-verse written for Sherri Gibson's Coloring The World Contest using her prompt

A CHEATER'S HEART

Raging fire of disbelief -
What had meant so much to me
meant nothing to you.
I was the unexpected guest
at the party, you were there
with someone else.
You held her tightly in your arms
and kissed her with the passion
that I thought -
was reserved for me.

It took a flood of tears
to put out the fire I felt inside.
I finally realized that you
had a cheater's heart,
filled with deceit and lies.
I turned and walked away
and never looked back, yet
you called the next day
and told me how much
you loved me.

I might have believed you
had I not been through this before.
You are what you are
and I cannot trust you to stay
for you have a wandering eye
and you enjoy your freedom
to come and go as you please,
thinking that I will always be here
to pick up the pieces
of a broken cheater's heart.
