someone lost forever and missed
The Last Goodbye

You stood at the porch door,
no more than a dream,
barefoot on pine floors;
still wet from the stream.

Like sand through my fingers
the time slipped away.
Your memory lingers,
day after day.

I still see you standing
right through the screen door,
the misunderstanding;
like all those before.

You glared at me madly,
stormed out with a frown
but no one knew sadly
by nightfall you'd drown.

You knew that I loved you
and no one could say
that I had been untrue
to you any way.

If ever I capture
just one thing I miss;
I'll save the sweet rapture
of a very first kiss.
