Poem dedicated to my sister, Mary Ann |
NOTE: I wrote two versions of tribute to my sister. I would love for you to review them and tell me which one you like best. I like honest, helpful reviews. She is a Rock She is a rock, shaped by years of weather and the waters that have flowed through the river of her life. She withstands the tempest and remains steadfast. Many have clung to her as the storms of life raged. She is a rare flower of astounding beauty. Those who know her stand in awe of her purity. She is a Christian, strong and true to her faith, always reaching out to others in love and compassion. She is a widow, reluctant to show her pain, yet needing to reveal tears to those who see only strength. She is a mother. Her generosity flows freely as the waters that flow through the river of her life. She is a rock. Beauty surrounds her. Compassion is her cloak, her strength, a shield. Pain stabs her, engulfs her. She chooses life. She overcomes grief, demonstrating her hope, holding high her steadfast faith. She remains fixed amid the storms. She’s a rock, shaped by weather and time. by Pat Nelson July 15, 2008 This is a Double Nonet with prompts given for a contest. A Nonet is a poem with nine lines. Line one has nine syllables, line two has eight syllables, and on like that until the ninth line, which is only one syllable. A Double Nonet reverses the order in the second verse. Rhyming is not necessary. The main emphasis should be on imagery and the flow of the thoughts throughout the poem. It is also dedicated to, and inspired by my sister, Mary Ann, who lost her husband in May. Also see "She Is A Rock" and "Forever Changed" |
