Man, is running from something only to find he is really running from himself
The enemy quickly approached as the man ran through the darkness

trying to throw the demon off his trail

leaping over protruding bushes, logs and plants

With their many branches extending upward and to the sides

Seeming to the frightened man to be trying to ensnare him

And prevent his escape from the monster who hunted him

Intent on his capture

He could feel its coldness chilling his limbs

And battling with his sanity

Slowly his mind and body began to give out,
his legs sank beneath him

His body struck the ground and there he lay

Fully defeated, sweat trickling off his pale cold face

His mind driven to the point of madness

His body limp upon the moist earth, awaiting his inevitable end

He waited and waited but nothing came, it was then he realized

The demon he had tried so hard to escape, was himself

He had been like a little child frightened of the dark

Unwilling to face it because of what he believed lurked within it.
