thoughts while mowing this afternoon.
The sweet smell of new mowed grass
falling around my mower blade
competing with exhaust and engine oil,
making the afternoon complete.

Falling around my mower blade,
daisies and four leafed clovers
are not recognizable, separate
from weeds and crab grasses.

Competing with exhaust and engine oil,
the whispering winds of my thoughts
slowly float back, back to my boyhood.
Daddy cut grass by hand with a long blade.

Making the afternoon complete,
I would load forks-full into a cart
to feed cows and horses on the farm.
Sweet smells bring sweet memories.
