A child talking about their experiences of growing up without a father...
Abandoned so young,
forced to live without.

Each day a new battle,
struggling to survive.

No hugs or kisses at night,
an "I love you, honey." you never said.

Growing up far too young,
dealing with problems all on my own.

My firsts you never saw,
I had to learn with no guidance.

My tears you never wiped away,
my booboos you never kissed and made better.

All this and more you missed,
all this and more I wanted to show you, to share with you.

You weren't around to see me grow,
to see me thrive each day.

You weren't around to teach me,
to teach me the things all little girls need learn.

Memories of you I can barely recall,
too young to make the memories stay.

So young I was and in need of you,
barely a year old when you left.

Maybe it's for the best.
Maybe it's just how it's supposed to be.
....
....
Maybe I'm not supposed to meet the man I should call "daddy".
