Life for a firefly
Whizzing over the fields, and through the sky,
He was known as the quickest flashing, firefly.
Every female wanted him, there was no doubt,
his signal made him, the most prized fly, about

Darius knew he was the primary mate
But knew nothing much, of this world or fate.
He didn’t spend much time quizzing the guys,
On why they were slower flashing, fireflies.

It came all of a sudden one hot summer night,
Shortly after Darius, had taken flight.
He kept his flashes going faster than ever,
And saw his match over by the heather.

He was so excited it hadn’t taken him long,
He was almost there, and almost in song.
Out of the way he went, away from his bunch,
Only to become, another gangs lunch.

Female fireflies prefer to mate male fireflies with longer and faster rhythms. She will give her response as a flash mimicking the males. Photinus fireflies give of gases that will deter most predators however they encourage bigger fireflies called Photuris. these bigger fireflies are also attracted to faster flashing and will eat the flashier bugs! this, according to researchers at Tufts university is the reason the Photinus fireflies flash has not evolved to be even flashier.
