A poem I wrote for my daughter when she was studying poetry in school.
For Sidnee

From your first breath of air
I was there;
Thanking God for this miracle
That he brought into my life.

The first hands to hold you
Were mine.
With slippery, wet gloves
Afraid I was holding you too tight.

When your new eyes opened,
They saw me.
Smiling and crying
And so full of pride.

I loved you from that very
Second,
With your bushy black hair
And your sparkling eyes.

So many times I feel like I’ve
Failed you.
Too often I think you’ve felt
Forgotten...ignored.

But you will always be
Daddy’s baby.
The first day, today, forevermore.
