About a man who is often far away, but often in thoughts
                            Thoughts of You

In the quiet still of the night,
even when you are a world away, you are with me
Slipping back to those honeyed Greek summer days with you
How you would rub the stubble on your jaw when lost in thought
Your smile so tender and warm like a lost fragment of the sun
The line of your back, smooth and rippling,
as if it had been sculpted by God
Like memories of my lost Hellenic childhood,
halcyon days that seem like a dream now.

Driving into La Rochelle, shrouded in sea mist,
just as the first light of dawn was breaking
The carousel stilled, silent and ghostly,
as you kissed my hair thinking I was asleep
Or was it your kiss that woke me for my need of you?

I used to say I liked to dance with the shadows,
so could disappear as quickly as I came.
Until you became part of my soul when I looked into your blue eyes
For the first time seeing something I had never seen there,
though I had known you long before
Now, even when we are apart, I feel you near to me,
as thoughts of you pervade my waking hours
At times I used to wonder how it might end,
But as moths to the flame we seem perpetually drawn.
