Falling in love with a character, not a person
Put your makeup on
Know your lines
Inside and out
Get into character
Forget what you're about

You're a star
You've come so far
From you

The camera's eye adores you
As do many lovestruck fans
But they don't even know you
Just the roles that you play
But behind the scenes
You're a real drama queen
But we still bow on our knees
Because you played your part so well

You can play Hollywood
To fill the holes you never could
With glitz, glamour, and pretty words
Phony smiles to hide the pain
Whatever masks your self disdain
There's a beauty underneath
But you hid it anyway

But when the red carpet is pulled
From underneath your feet
What will you do
When everyone sees you fall?

The camera's eye adores you
As do many lovestruck fans
But they don't even know you
Just the roles that you play
But behind the scenes
You're a real drama queen
But we still bow on our knees
Because you played your part so well

I fell in love
Because you played your part so well
I fell in love with you
But it wasn't you at all
